SDL Trados Studio 2017

Arkadiusz Jasinski – freelance translator DE→PLI got to know Trados in the very late 90s of the last century when I worked as an in-house translator at Lomac LLC (currently SDL Poland), which at that time was one of the leading localisation companies in Poland. Back then I was already impressed by the idea of translation memory, and I even wrote a whole chapter of my Master's thesis about it. Trados still comes in handy in getting complex projects completed on time, and I have been working with this software not only as a translator, but also as a university lecturer.

CafeTran Espresso

Arkadiusz Jasinski – freelance translator DE→PLAlthough I am a relatively new user of this software, I have already found CafeTran to be an extremely valuable resource. There is a nice comparison of CafeTran and SDL Trados Studio 2015 at ProZ.com. And one quote from a review (by Selcuk Akyuz) states as follows: “CafeTran's developer is not only a programmer but he is a translator as well, that is why he adds all those unique features helping translators.”

Tstream Editor Studio

Arkadiusz Jasinski – freelance translator DE→PLTstream Editor is another example of a CAT tool written in Java, meaning that it is independent from the platform it is running on. Owned by the Belgian Xplanation Language Services NV, the software is also required by cooperating agencies. The translator works on a file with the extention *.lwo—the job package is actually a *.jar archive with all project metadata and resources integrated into a complete translation environment.

freelance translator DE→PL since 1999

I made the leap to full-time self-employment in the summer of 2016, after over 10 years of work as a research assistant in a graduate department of German studies at one of the youngest universities in Poland. Prior to that, I worked for several years as an in-house translator and head of the German language unit at a global, industry-leading localization company.
